April 2012 Recap

Here we go again. Another recap for another month. This recap will be a little more exciting because my life took a few surprising twists and turns this past month. :)

Towards the beginning of April, I went and saw the Disney movie "Mirror Mirror" with my friend Salima, her daughter Layla and my sister, Kat. It was a cute/fun film and the visuals in particular were absolutely stunning. Afterwards I kept replaying the song at the end sung by Lily Collins. And I'm kind of obsessed with her eyebrows.

I went shoe shopping with my mom towards the beginning of the month, as well and bought some really cute flats, wedges and an awesome purse that I have been taking with me to school everyday. (It's much more fashionable than a backpack.)

Here's a photo of what I bought:

As for more recently, I got my wisdom teeth pulled on Friday. Yep! It seemed like a really huge deal and I was super insanely nervous and stressed out about it and it ended up being no big deal!! Sup with that, yo??

I got them pulled because my upper wisdom teeth both had cavities in them and one of them was so bad that it was causing me pain and it hurt like a bitch. So I scheduled a consultation asap and I got my teeth pulled exactly 1 week later, which was Friday, April 27th. I was so incredibly nervous before the procedure but as soon as they put the IV in me, I was out like a light. I didn't even know that I had fallen asleep, that's how fast it was. The next thing I knew, I was waking up and it was all done. I wasn't even that out of it when I woke up. I needed a little help walking at first but that was it. I went online shortly after I got home and I thought I was gonna be in bed all day. ha! As if. It wasn't bad at all.

In other news, I got an e-mail last week from Delta (my community college) and they approved me for an AA degree in Teacher Prep! (I'm not gonna be a teacher, I just want the AA so I can move on and get my BA in Journalism). My diploma will be mailed to me in July just as long as I pass the classes I'm taking now and maintain a GPA above 2.0. Yay! A college degree! It's about time. =P

Spring applications for CSU aren't available until the 1st of August so I won't be able to apply until then. I've decided to apply to a bunch of SoCal schools that offer Journalism/Media majors just so I can have a selection of schools to choose from (hopefully lol). If I just apply to one school and I don't get in, then I'll be screwed. But anyways...

This semester is almost over. I've got this week, then 2 more full weeks and then finals week and I only have to go in for one day. My lab final is on a Tuesday and then I'll be done.

Wisdom teeth are out, getting my AA... gettin' shit done, ya'll!

Until next time...

March 2012 Recap

It's April already? What the hell is happening, people? Hey, time? SLOW DOWN! You're moving way too fast.

My last semester at Delta is more than half over and I'm wishing I had more time. It wasn't until this last semester that it hit me just how great I've got it right now. I'm living at home with my parents and my only responsibilities right now are getting my homework in on time and studying for tests. I'm in my comfort zone. Once I'm done at Delta, I enter the "real world" and I'm afraid of what's ahead of me. Will I get into the school of my choosing? Will I find a way to pay for it and support myself when I'm in SoCal? Will I get those internships I've been dreaming about for years?

What sucks about being a Capricorn and planning out every aspect of my life is that everything seems to fall apart if something doesn't go the way I planned. I wish I could just go with the flow.

Aside from my constant worrying about the future, here is what happened in the past for the month of March:

Kat's 22nd birthday was on the 8th and we went out to dinner a week after to celebrate with our grandmother and our parents. We went to Sushi House which has delicious chinese/japanese cuisine. We went out to dinner a week afterwards because she spent her birthday weekend with her boyfriend, whom she broke up with a mere month later. (A couple days ago, actually. Whatevs.) We had our mid-terms last week (I'm on Spring Break right now) and I am pretty confident about them. I'm eager to learn how well I did on both, as I studied my butt off for the lecture essay exam and I crammed for the lab exam before class and knew most of the answers right away without even thinking about them, lol.

Went to the zoo towards the end of the month to write a report for my lab class. I'm gonna head to the Sacramento zoo later this month for my lecture class. lol.

Mad Men and Make it Or Break it returned to my television screen about a week ago and I couldn't be happier about it. Both shows have been gone for a long time and even though I just caught up with Mad Men, it feels like I'd been waiting forever for a new season, lol. Finally saw The Hunger Games with my mom and sister on Friday, March 23rd and I really enjoyed it. I thought it was a great depiction of the book and thought they did a really great job of converting the story to the screen. I also thought Jennifer Lawrence did a great job of portraying Katniss. Watched The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo for the 2nd time this past weekend. Got it on DVD from Netflix and watched it with the parentals. My mom and I saw it in the theater on my birthday but my dad was seeing it for the first time and he really enjoyed it. It was more deserving of an Oscar than The Artist in my opinion. (Even though I haven't seen The Artist, lol.) Also, Rooney was more deserving of an Oscar than Meryl. So was Michelle Williams. But I digress. Sorry for the lack of pictures this time. Didn't take too many last month. Oh, well. Maybe I'll have more for the month of April. Until next time... xoxo. <3

One Tree Hill vs. Dawson's Creek

I've been meaning to write this blog post for a while now and since I'm finally on Spring Break, what better time to do it than now?

One Tree Hill is ending this week. Tomorrow, actually. And I don't feel a bit of sadness. Okay, sure, when the episode airs, it might bring out a few tears, but it's nothing at all compared to the devastation I felt when Dawson's Creek went off the air 9 years ago (almost exactly).

I must admit, when One Tree Hill began airing in 2003, I purposely refused to watch it. I was a senior in high school at the time and was still mourning the loss of my all-time favorite show, Dawson's Creek (which has recently been replaced by The Office, but it's still up there at #2).

Eventually a friend of mine convinced me to start watching it in 2004 towards the beginning of the show's 2nd season and I quickly fell in love with it; mainly for the fact that the one and only "Minkus" from Boy Meets World had just sung "Baby Got Back" on karaoke and I nearly died from laughing so hard. One of the reasons why Mouth is one of my favorite characters is because (believe it or not) he's the one who got me hooked on the show. These days the poor character is being crapped on with ridiculous storylines and very little air time, but back then, he added a great comic relief to the show.

After quickly catching up on Season 1, I fell even more in love with the show. I became very unhealthly obsessed with Naley (the show's most popular couple, Nathan and Haley) and at times was convinced that I loved the show more than the Creek. (I know! Blasphemy, right?)

Seasons 3-5 were probably my most obsessive years. These were also coincidentally the peak years for Naley as a couple storyline-wise, but towards the end of season 5, my love for the show slowly started to go downhill, along with the quality of the show. Eventually I realized that if the show didn't involve Nathan, Haley or Mouth, I just didn't care. In fact the only reason I have stayed a loyal viewer these past three seasons is because of those three characters.

Now that the show is finally (FINALLY) coming to an end after 9 (NINE!) freaking seasons, I don't really have any emotions or feelings of sadness when I think about it ending. In all honesty, it's because I believe the show should have ended several seasons ago. The main star of the show (Chad Michael Murray) left 3 seasons prior to the finale, but when it began, it was about 2 brothers. The whole main concept of the show was basically thrown out the window when he left and it hasn't been the same since. It's like the last 3 seasons of the show have been some sort of poorly done spin-off that's not even near the quality of the original series. (Example: Joey, the Friends spin-off).

What's more is that they added in the characters of Clay and Quinn. Two characters whom I still have yet to care about, and they've been on the show for 3 seasons.

One Tree Hill is far from flawless. But hey, so was the Creek. But overall, the Creek was far better in quality, writing and acting (to prove my point, Michelle Williams went on to be nominated for 3 Oscars and has won multiple acting awards, including a Golden Globe). And of course there's the fact that the Creek didn't keep going for nine seasons when it was technically only designed for four. (It went on six seasons, but the last 2 weren't nearly as dreadful as Season 7 of OTH).

Quality issues aside, Dawson's Creek will always mean so much more to me than One Tree Hill due to the fact that it got me through some rough times in High School. Let's face it, High School is a cake walk for basically nobody and every week I would look forward to Wednesday night's at 8 o'clock when I could sit down in my room in the dark for an hour and just escape.

Because of this, Dawson's Creek holds a special place in my heart that One Tree Hill will never have access to. And people who have never watched the show won't understand. Or maybe they will. Perhaps One Tree Hill is this generation's Dawson's Creek. Albeit not as great, it does have the same heart that DC once did. (However there is the fact that it has subtely copied Dawson's Creek several times over the years, including the most obvious event to date; Julian creating a TV show based on his friend's high school years. It was literally ripped from the pages of the Creek.)

Regardless of my feelings for One Tree Hill now, the show has indeed changed my life. Without this show, I never would have had the experience with Kate Voegele that I had and I never would have been able to communicate with Lee Norris over the internet or meet inspiring people like Reese and Amy. I also probably wouldn't have discovered a love and appreciation for music and for that I will always be grateful.

With all that being said, Rest in Peace, One Tree Hill. You're finally ending.

February 2012 - Recap

I forgot to mention in my previous posts that in January, Salima, Layla and I went to see my favorite Disney animated movie of all time in the movie theater in 3D. Yep, Beauty and the Beast. We went to a 9:20 p.m. showing and it was awesome. BATB was actually the first movie I ever saw in the theater when I was 6 years old. It had been exactly 20 years. Here's a photo:

Nothing exciting really happened in February. It was all school. We had our first quiz in my Anthro lecture class and I only missed 1 question. I got a score of 28/30 which was the highest score in the class. The class average was 21. I was super happy and felt super smart.

On March 1st (not in Feb, I know) we had our first exam in Anthro Lab and 12 out of 25 people in the class failed it. 4 people got D's, 4 people got C's, 3 people got B's and 2 people got A's. I got a B!!! I had a 79% but I only needed a half a point more to get to an 80% B, so my instructor wrote on my exam "I'll round up to a B." I was SO HAPPY and I couldn't believe it! After she told us that 12 people failed I was like "shit" and expected the worst. ha. I ended up getting one of the top 5 grades in the class! WOO!

In February, Smash premiered and I really love that show. The pilot episode was incredible and I've seen it more than 5 times now. Just stunning. This show makes Glee look like shit. Just saying.

Anywho. Not much else to say about the short month that was February. I really feel like it flew by.

School is going well. Statistics has gotten a little difficult but I'm somehow managing an A in that class. I currently have an 85% B in my Lab class and an 93% A in my lecture class, although it might actually be lower now because we had a quiz today and I'm not so sure how I did on it, lol.

Anyway, just wanted to post my recap. It's now 4 o'clock in the morning and I need to get my ass in bed. Later!

January Recap (Part 2)

On Friday, January 20th I got to attend a Cougar Town viewing party in San Francisco hosted by one of the writers and Busy Philipps, who plays Laurie on the show.

I won tickets through Bill Lawrence's twitter account (he created Cougar Town, as well as Scrubs) and I was so excited, because I had been fan of Busy for nearly 10 years, ever since she first appeared on Dawson's Creek. The main reason I started watching Cougar Town was because she was on it. So the fact that out of all the cast members that could have hosted the SF party, they sent her, was unbelievable.

We got to watch 3 episodes of the show (episodes #3.01, #3.04 and #3.05, which featured a bunch of Scrubs cameos and was AMAZING) and play Penny Can. I actually hit penny can once. It was awesome. I also participated in Cougar Town trivia and won a free CT tour t-shirt for knowing that Travis' ex girlfriend on the show was named Kylie.

I got Busy to sign my t-shirt and got a couple pictures with her. She took one herself and then a fellow fan took the other one:

I also got to meet and chat with one of the Cougar Town writers, Blake, and he apparantly wanted to talk to me because a fellow fan (who was super nice) had told him about my fansite. He gave me his e-mail address and told me I could write him whenever I wanted to talk about the show. Super awesome. :) He was really nice.

It was one of the best nights of my life, easily. My dad and I each got a free beer at the open bar, courtesy of Bill Lawrence. He paid for everyone's drinks for the evening because he's super cool like that.

January Recap (Part 1)

So sorry it's taken so long for me to write this. But here it is!

On January 5th, my best friend Salima and I drove down to Anaheim with her mom and her adorable 5 year old daughter, Layla. What were we doing in Anaheim, you ask?

GOING TO DISNEYLAND.

That's right. Finally got to revisit my personal happy place since my last trip there in July of 2008. :)

Didn't sleep much the entire time, but it was totally and completely worth it. Even had breakfast with Salima at Denny's at 5am. WHAT UPPPP.

Everything was amazing. The park was INSANELY crowded on Friday, especially Friday night. Holy mother. I have been to Disneyland more than 10 times in my lifetime and I have NEVER seen it so crowded. We got lucky on Saturday morning, though. We hit up all of the Tomorrowland rides in like 2 hours. Star Tours line was 5 minutes, Space Mountain was 10 minutes, Nemo was 15 mins and Matterhorn was about the same. We just got incredibly lucky. But yeah, I had the time of my life and it was SO much fun spending time with my BFF in my favorite place in the entire world. :) I wanna do it again! <3

Oh and I FINALLY got to see World of Color, ride Star Tours 2.0 and the new Little Mermaid ride and finally got to try a Dole-Whip! Missions accomplished!!!

Where Do I Begin? Recap of December

I was going to post a blog recapping this month's events, but I realized that the last time I blogged was before Christmas. So I'll be recapping the last month and a half.

This blog post will be everything that happened in December and coming soon will be a blog about January 2012.

I got straight B's last semester, which is an amazing feat. Especially in Geography. That class was HARD and I got a B!

The week after school ended was the week of Christmas and I kicked it off by helping to cook breakfast for the warehouse people at my dad's work.

Mmmm... yummy sausages. I also won a $10 gift card to In-N-Out and my dad won a gift card to the movie theater downtown, which my mom used on my birthday when we saw The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. (Amazing movie, by the way. Very true to the book.)

That was on a Monday. On Tuesday my dad and I went out to breakfast at Chuck's in Stockton for the first time and discovered that they have the best omelettes! Yum. We then went Christmas shopping for mom and Kat.

On Christmas Eve, we went to my grandmother's house to visit with her and my aunt like we do every year and we had a delicious dinner and opened presents.

The Aftermath:

We then opened more presents at home with my parents and my sister on Christmas morning. (No pictures of this event are allowed online.)

Three days later came my 26th birthday. Let's try to forget the fact that I'm 4 years away from turning 30. Mmk? K. We went out to dinner at this Japanese buffet in Sacramento and because it was my birthday, my meal was free. Holla!

Then came New Years and I don't think I took any pictures that night. It was just a night in and my mom, Kat and I watched "Love Actually". It was mine and Kat's first time seeing that movie in its entirety. We got some chicken from Church's chicken and ate that with chips and dip, egg rolls and bread and spinach dip. Add some booze to that and there was our new year's eve. :) Alright, that about covers it for December. Exciting events from January will be posted soon.

Which of these things do you think I'm most excited for?? ;)

Semester's Almost Over!

Wow. I haven't blogged on here since October 14th?? Cray cray.

Well, this is my last week of this semester before finals. I only have to go to campus twice this week (Monday and Wednesday) and then once next Monday for my Geo final and I will be almost done. (I still have to take my online final for Political Science).

I've also gotta take my last exam for my speech class this week. I cannot believe I survived that class. I was dreading it for years. But I did my last speech on Thursday and I was SO relieved and happy when it was over with.

I have SO many things to look forward to and it just makes me so excited for the semester to be over with. Of course there's Christmas and all the things that come with it like holiday shopping and all that fun stuff, but then there's my birthday and new year's and then finally, DISNEYLAND. Yes. Disneyland. After 3 and a half years I am finally going back to my happy place. My friend Salima is going with her family to Long Beach because her brother just got back from Afghanistan and he's getting an award at a military ceremony thing that lasts like 2 days. So they're going to Disneyland while they are down there and taking Layla. And of course I had to go with them. lol. It's Salima's first time going and I've been there like 10+ times and know that place like the back of my hand so I'm going to be her tour guide. lol

I CANT WAIT THO OMG. & We're gonna be there right before the Matterhorn bobsleds close until June. They're finally gonna install the new bobsleds with individual seating. We'll be the last ones on the old bobsleds. Yeppp. AND all of the holiday stuff will still be going on so we'll get to see the holiday parade and fireworks and everything. Along with Fantasmic and World of Color, of course. Shit, they're gonna have to keep up with me. LOL. =P

Salima is so excited she said she wants to run over some little kids just to be the first one in the park. LOL. Now that's what I'm talkin about! We're two 25 year olds but really we're 5 at heart. =) LOL. And the best part is, we're going a week after my 26th birthday and I've always wanted to go to Disneyland for my birthday. December 28th just happens to be THE busiest day at Disneyland Park so I'd be crazy to go on my actual birthday. Seriously, last year they had to close the gates because it was so crowded. Insanity, yo. So the week after is perfect. =)

But I am seeing The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo on my birthday. I'm so excited for that, as well. I read the book over four weeks this summer and I really enjoyed it. & Then the Hunger Games comes out in March next year. YAY. :) The trailer for it looks amazing; just like the book.

Alright, that's all for now. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, WALT DISNEY!!! Thank you so much for creating my heaven on earth. =)

xoxo

Keepin' Busy

It's been a while since I've posted a blog. Feels like forever, actually.

The semester is OFFICIALLY half over. Can you believe it?

Unfortunately, the semester just seems to get more stressful the further I get into it. I seriously cannot wait to get this damn speech class over with. I swear, it'll be the death of me.

We're currently doing "host groups" and I hate group projects more than anything. No one ever does what they're supposed to do and I end up doing most of the work. Well, not this time. I've decided to not take responsibility for my group because honestly I don't want that job. I did it last year in my mass comm class and that was the LAST time I will ever do that. It was unfair that I had to do 90% of the work for my entire group. UNFAIR. So I vowed to never do it again.

Anyway. My group is hosting demonstration speeches on Tuesday and I believe the only time I have to speak in front of class is to introduce one of the speakers. I've been e-mailing my group trying to find out who I need to introduce so that I can contact them and get their info. Otherwise I can't do my intro and then my grade goes south.

I have my 2nd Geography midterm on Wednesday and I'm turning in my extra credit poster on Monday. I'm going over to my friend Salima's house on Saturday (tomorrow) at 3pm so we can work on our posters together. She has markers and glitter. (ooo!) Yes, we're going to have fun. muah haha. Probably won't be like our high school days when she used to sniff that shit, but y'know.

I've also gotta do a take home quiz for Geo and write on the message board for my online Polisci class.

I haven't completely finished my outline for my demonstration speech but that's okay because I purposefully signed up to do mine on the 25th, which is a week from Tuesday. I didn't want to have to do it the same week as my Geo exam. (Stress to the MAX.) I'm gonna show how to use a 35mm camera, which is EASY AS CAKE, so I'm not too worried about it. The only thing I'm worried about is that people have to sign up to be minor speakers in between speeches and they have to tell a joke or a funny story for like 40 seconds to a minute. I believe all of the slots for minor speakers have been filled and that I will get out of having to do one. *crosses fingers* I purposely waited until tonight to e-mail back the guy who needed 2 more people. ha. SHHH.

ANYWAY. I hope this is the last time we have to work in groups in this class because I HATEEE IT.

Anyway, here's updates on my entertainment shiz:

Books I'm currently reading: A Little Princess, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Sisterhood Everlasting
Shows I just watched: CommunityParks and Rec & The Secret Circle. (Community was f-ing AMAZING this week. OMG.)
Shows I need to catch up on: Glee (this whole season so far), Hawaii Five-0 (this week's ep.)
Currently renting from Netflix: Happy Endings Season 1, Disc 2 (my mom is catching up)

Alrighty, that is all for now. Subway for dinner tonight. Kate show in less than 3 weeks. WOOOOT. Cannot wait to see that girl again. Gonna be an amazing show. =)

L8ER.
